Contradictions: Light and Dark

By Savannah Banks

The sun sets

And brings darkness.

Humans hate the dark.

So they created;

They created

Fire

And buzzing lights

And cities that never sleep.

Vegas never sleeps;

Its lights never go out.

It is never left in the dark.

So they flock

Because they become moths;

They forget.

Forget what the city represents.

The dangers it holds at night.

They see the dark

And run to the light.

The sun rises

And brings light.

Humans hate the light.

So they protected;

They protected

The land

And the mountains

And the dark that lets them rest.

The Desert sleeps;

Its light always goes out.

It is left in the dark.

So they scurry

Because they become rats;

They remember.

Remember what the Desert represents.

The comfort it holds.

They see the light,

And run to the dark.

Because that is nature.

Nothing is the same.

Nothing is symmetrical.

We may be similar,

We may be human.

But no one is the same.

Some fear the dark

And what hides in the night,

Some fear the light

And what hides in plain sight.

But everyone,

No matter what they fear,

Everyone

Knows how to run.
