Existential Colors

By Anaya Bond

On a rainy day, your rainbow blooms into existence

On a rainy day, you shine the brightest.

When you meet someone on a rainy day, that is the real test-

Are they the one who sees your rainbow?

Perhaps they see the colors you thought were missing,

Or the one color you thought was invisible.

When your eyes meet,

Your hearts beat to the same melody.

Others may provide occasional acts of kindness,

But it is the consistent one, who shines the most.

The one who makes the bare minimum extraordinary;

The one who presents genuine acts of chivalry.

You will never need to move a single boulder to be seen,

For this person moves mountains to see you.

Now, you wonder if you’ve waltzed into a fairy tale;

A dream you never want to wake up from

Or a nightmare waiting to torment you.

Is this journey dangerous?

Or is this the great love you’ve waited for?

Your curiosity drives you towards this wonderland

Where all your fantasies may be lived out.

You fear that once you wake,

You will never meet such a person

Who will see how you paint the world with your colors;

Who will see that even all the colors of the world

Cannot compose the unique color of you.

Alas, it is all too good to be true.

Your true colors only illuminate from the woe of rain.

So, you dread the day

When the sun rises again;

When the other colors drown you out of sight.

Perhaps the real test after all

Was for someone to see your colors,

When it does not rain at all;

When your light is no longer dimmed,

By shimmering sunrays that fall.
